About Project

The Construction Documentation (CD) set for an 84,360 sq. ft. commercial development in Crestwood, Kentucky; was produced by our team. One of the main objectives of the project was to produce a completely coordinated set of architectural drawings in Revit within a strict 15-day schedule. This case study will describe how we developed a strategy for successfully managing large-scale projects under tight timelines.

The model assists in coordination of designs, future amendments and documentation that is construction ready. The job was done by three BIM professionals who had only 7 days to make sure that there was a high level of accuracy and client compliance.

Challenge

Scope together with the fast-tracked delivery time frame. Some of the challenges were creating documentation for a large 84,360 square feet building, requiring careful planning to maintain consistency; accomplishing everything in the 15 days allocated for completion; and working collaboratively with the team in order to produce the most efficient product possible and not to falter during this process. In addition to this, being precise in every dimension, detail and annotation was vital for meeting client expectations.

Finally, building a fluid and robust process for receiving feedback from the client, and producing design changes based on their comments without making mistakes, was required.

Our Solution

Our company employs a structured method focused on improving efficiency through its strategy. To speed up the process, we break the documents into packages (e.g., floor plans, elevations, and sections) and assign different teams to work simultaneously on them. Thus, by leveraging our staff’s expertise and advanced Revit functional design, along with previously designed templates, we can automate the process of generating sheets and coordinating views, thereby reducing manual labour and the risk of human error.

Also, we held daily internal review meetings to detect and resolve potential clashes or inconsistencies before they escalated into major issues. Coordinating efforts beforehand and following an extensive multi-phased quality control system for each drawing has ensured that all drawings were created accurately and in compliance with the project.

Results

Through our overall execution of the entire CD package, we completed an entire CD package on time with full coordination of the entire set of Construction Drawings services and our highly organised BIM workflow allowed for minimal downstream coordination issues for all parties involved.
