About Project

Chudasama Outsourcing was able to fulfill the 7531 sq. ft. established project of Davis Elementary School which is an educational building in Washington, DC, 20019, United States. This project entailed the As-Built Revit Modeling services whereby the Revit architectural LOD 300 modeling services was the major scope of work.

Davis elementary school project was the remodeling of an accurate architectural model of LOD 300 level in Autodesk Revit over old manually sketched drawing sets.

The school building has brick walls, metal studs, Partition GWB and concrete/ wooden ups. The objective involved development of an intelligent BIM model out of archaic 2D drawings that helps in planning and renovation of facilities as well as documentation.

Project Inputs & Strategy

The origin of this project was a set of hand drafted legacy drawings relying on PDF format. What we wanted to do is to move these hand-drawn documents to a full-scale digital BIM model in Revit that can be used to provide not only the current documentation but also can be used to make future planning.

To achieve this, we adopted the following methodology:

Autodesk Revit was utilized to carry out comprehensive architectural modeling.

We carefully extracted key elements such as brick and GWB wall types, metal stud partitions, doors, windows, stairs, and roofing details.

The model encompassed all major architectural systems, including the building envelope and structural floors.

Additional layers such as site topography and construction phasing were integrated for clearer spatial understanding and coordination.

Key Challenges Encountered

Converting legacy content into accurate BIM model came with their set of challenges:

The hand drawn sketches were vague, inconsistent and usually faded and could not be straightforwardly traced.

Translating these 2D representations into a spatially accurate 3D environment demanded meticulous level alignment and validation.

All this needed to be achieved under tight time constraints, without compromising on architectural detail and fidelity.
