About Project

This project is among the notable high-rise buildings in New York City at 235 East 42nd Street, New York, NY 10017. The work was narrowed down to coming up with a precise model of the structure using the scan data available of the cellar floor and the first floor. 

Part of our work involved making models of important structural components like columns, beams, floors, and shear walls based on the point cloud/scan data. This work was done in order to develop a reliable BIM model that can be utilized in coordination, analysis, and future design or renovation needs. High accuracy was applied in the development of the model to reflect the current site conditions and facilitate downstream architectural and structural processes.

Challenge

There were a lot of noises and irregularities in the initial scan data, and they needed a lot of data refinement. To fix this, our group implemented sophisticated clean-up strategies to improve clarity.  There were challenges in synchronizing scan data on architectural and potential structural aspects. Proper integration was guaranteed by good internal communication and periodic coordination meetings.

Solutions

We utilized the scan data of the first floor and cellar floor given to us as the main reference to satisfy the requirements of the project. The point cloud was well-oriented and cleaned to provide a precise interpretation of structural elements. 

On this information, columns, beams, floors, and shear walls were modeled accurately in Revit with proper sizes, positions, and levels. Both alignment, connectivity, and structural consistency were paid special attention to so as to fit the current site conditions.

The completed bim model provides a stable digital depiction of the building structure system, which may be adopted in coordinating, testing, and upcoming design/renovation assignments.

Results

The project was made to be a successful delivery of the building at 235 East 42nd Street as an accurate BIM model of the building. Using scan data, Chudasama Outsourcing managed to model all principal structural elements, such as columns, beams, floors, and shear walls, on the cellar and the first floors.

The last model offers a rigid and clear-cut base of the coordination of a team, detection of a clash, and further design or renovation planning.
