About Project

825 5th Ave, Apt, New York, NY, USA Residential This project was a Scan-to-BIM project that included extracting 3,600 sq. Convert ft. residential unit into a BIM model The client shared Matterport scan data of the apartment, which was used as a base to develop a detailed Revit model. Our objective was to replicate the existing conditions of the space accurately, enabling future planning, renovation, and facility management with confidence.

Scan to BIM Conversion in the Project

The focus of this project was the conversion of a scan to BIM. We used Matterport scan data to build the architectural and structural dimensions of the apartment into a digital environment. It provided a Building Information Model (BIM) that consisted not only of the physical aspects of the space but also of a repository asset for renovation programming, space management, and life-cycle management. This allowed stakeholders to coordinate easily and benefited from high accuracy.

Chudasama Outsourcing's Role in the Project

Importing and Processing Scan Data: We first imported the 3D Matterport scans in point cloud data format. This way, we ensured that the scans were clean and could be modeled directly.

Creating the Detailed BIM Model: Specialized architectural BIM model creation by our experts including walls, floors, doors, windows, roofs, etc. Achieving a close representation requires an emphasis on geometry accuracy and fitment to scanned data.

Importing and Processing Scan Data: The BIM model was validated with the scan data using several iterations to identify and correct discrepancies and obtain an extremely high level of data integrity.

Integrated BIM Model Delivery: The fully coordinated BIM model was delivered to the client complete with relevant documentation and data sheets. This all-inclusive asset was designed to service their renovation & planning application requirements perfectly.

Project Challenges

Scan Data Refinement: The first scans have noise and had irregularities which necessitated intensive cleanup work. Our team employed advanced methods to enhance clarity.

Complex Architectural Elements: The geometry of the apartment had curved walls and detailed roofs, which could not be represented with conventional modeling tools.

Data Coordination: It was a challenge to sync architectural and structural elements from the scan, hence, regular communication and data coordination ensured correct information.

Results

Completed project of 825 5th Ave Apartment by BIM expert team of Chudasama Outsourcing. We created a precise as-built BIM model that increased the clarity of renovation and facility maintenance documentation.
